Also, keep in mind that it's very difficult for the power supply from power plants to ramp up and down to meet demand, and as such, a lot of energy has to be burned off and wasted at night when demand is low. That's why some places charge a lot less for electricity at night. If most people use their car to get to work and simply charge up for 8 hours while they sleep, the overall emissions per kWh are reduced, and the numbers swing more in the favour of plug-in vehicles.

Yes, and one more thing. Once you have many cars plugged into a company suplies charger at work the company knows the cars will not leave until (say) 5:30pm so they can use there charger farm to remove power from the batteries durring peak times and then put it back before 5:30pm. If demand on the grid is "peaky" cars can can actually help with supply.

Also, there are many people (like me) waiting for these batteries to need to be replaced. I'll buy the old ones and place them in a big warehouse and buy power at night and sell it back durring the day. Used batteries should be cheap in 10 to 15 years.

Electric power is a comodity who price goes up and down predictably. Should be way-easy to make money. Just think if you knew the price of gold would dip in 6 hours then go back up in 12. Batteries should allow the average price paid for power to go down.

Here is another ideal to consider. Instead of going after the traditional networks and providers and as many have pointed out many of those networks whether GSM or CDMA do not have enough bandwidths to make an Iphone really usuable.

I think they will deploy WiMax iPhone since the chip sets are standard based verses proprietary technology from Qualcom and others for CDMA and GSM which have very close relation ships with the current cell phone companies and service providers.

WiMax is the next generation wireless technology which will be deployed by companies like Earthlink for wireless broadband internet access. This is something I can see Apple doing verses trying working a deal with the current services providers.

one vote and that negative for something so many people are so eagerly waiting about, apple's proper forray into the cloud.

Gotta love people's negativity in these forums for it's humour quality, unbelievable as it might be.

But it's high time that people here took that ridiculous voting system out too. It was misguided to begin with, it still is. But because people have been calling you out to change it you are becoming more stubborn and keeping it. Not a good a thing to do.

Anyway on to the topic, it sounds very exciting and I can't wait to see what apple come up with. :)

    Oh, most definitely.

Wikipedia: nice idea, shame about the execution. Its greatest strength (i.e. that anyone can alter its content) is also its greatest weakness. I know which of the I would choose, and it would *not* be Wikipedia.

Go right ahead. That does not change the findings of the independent study. But if you decide not to use Wikiedia. you most certainly have that right.

The 750 MB option is welcoming. I wonder how much less is a hard drive over the net?

750GB drives can be had for under $400 if that is what you meant.

I've been looking at the same setup but start off with maybe 8Gbs and expand from there. The following website is what I've been looking at: http://lime-technology.com/

I'm looking at the server that has 12 bays. I don't know how all this stuff works yet...but I'm learning. There is also a forum that has a lot of good info.

Keep us posted on what you decide.

You just had to bring up the Rugby World Cup, didn't you? We were robbed! Robbed, I tell you!!

And you've been told to turn your radio off? Call him un-English. That's an Australian thing that politicians use whenever people don't agree with them "To disagree would be un-Australian". Our Prime Minister is the top candidate of this phrase.

And Warne is doing very well but I still think he is a wanker.

I found it by surfing their QuickTime site:

    http://events.apple.com.edgesuite.net/sep_2006/event/index.html

This isn't going to be a 'live stream'. Even the text says 'live-on-demand stream'. on-demand means you can watch it whenever you want. This is a stub for them to put the finished stream on once it's over.

Who found this link? It's not anywhere on the http://www.apple.com/quicktime/guide/appleevents/ page. So most likely someone ran into this link by mistake or was fed it by an insider, but it's not going to go live probably for at least an hour after the event is over.

That's my guess anyway, I could be wrong, but it doesn't feel like this link is going to work for a while.

anyone else get an insanely loud noise just before the instal?
It's normal for the fans to run on full power during the firmware update. I assume that's the noise you heard, right?

I don't care if those shots are real or fake. It's not like we're going to get something radically different than we have now.

In fact, ALL I want from Apple is more speed. Make the OS faster and I'll drop $100 no question.

IMO this is the most amazing release from apple in quite some time. As a runner, I'm frankly blown away by this. I have a nano already, but this is awesome.

I think that's not correct. Some people need more than 128GB you know. Yes, you can carry an external drive but then why not carry a larger machine with more internal storage?

The 1366x768 resolution can be limiting. For example, Apple's own Server Admin software will barely show the summary page at 768 pixels tall. The bottom row of graphs are tiny squished things at the bottom. It's clearly not meant to run on this small a display. And it's a perfect example of something you would want on a small carry it anywhere Mac.

    Like I was saying...

if a PPC would cost 700 bucks then i would go for a mac mini... but hey a PPC 2 core G5 for 300 bucks... it is still more affordable.

Collingwood over Anderson - A good choice guys? I think so. Anderson was has too little to offer the attack if his bowling doesn't go well. An all rounder was a good choice and Collingwood has already beaten the Aussies before, this summer.

Or not! It's all falling apart again. England will be luck to get to 350 from here!

Newer updates contain newer features (that the Apps might require to run) as well as essential security fixes. Running an older iOS version (as with any OS) is simply ill advised.
Obviously, if an app requires newer features it should require it. But if it's just doing basic stuff that you could do since, say, 4.0, why exactly should they require you update to 4.3.3? And if it doesn't need/use things like multitasking, why not use as low of a rev as possible to ensure the most people possible can run the app?

I have a number of friends with 3G phones that refuse to upgrade since they've seen lots of issues on their devices with the newer firmware, and there's an increasing number of apps they can't run but have no discernible reason to be requiring the newest firmware version...

Either that - or they are really good at driving to be so close without hitting the brakes (ie no brake lights are on in the photo)

With only four fingers they can be pretty nimble behind the wheel.
