I think most consumers do not know carbon because they never had something like a racing bicycle made of it.

Many people will think apple has made the product worse or is just trying to safe costs when they see a carbon MacBook for the first time because they think it is "plastic" and not something high tech.

    Christian

I couldn't disagree more. Apple is a master of marketing, its what makes them so successful. They could sell a computer made out of glass if they wanted to and I'm sure the consumers would just gobble it up.

And besides, apples target market is, lets be honest, the richer more educated portion of the world. Point being, if you can afford to lay down $1,000+ for a computer, I'll gamble that you've at least heard of Carbon Fiber.
    :apple:

    Yes. Very few survive.

The weak don't survive. Isn't that good for evolution?

I thought the human eye couldn't detect anything over 30 fps?

Old wives tale. I can easily tell the difference between 30 fps and 60 fps TV shows on my HDTV. (Well, my EyeTV hybrid anyway, since my physical TV is still SD.)

If something is rock-solid 30fps, it is generally 'good enough', but most games aren't a rock solid frame rate, they vary.

Gapless playback is good news but oh dear, if new iPod "games" are the level of announcements - even at the beginning - then this is going to be a big, big disappointment of a keynote for some people... :p

It kind erks me that I still have to have a gaming PC to max out current titles. Gosh I wish I Apple would up their GPU game so I could use the Mac for everything. :(

I have this gut feeling Apple is holding back on features not implemented yet on purpose.Just like they held back on OS X running on Intel.

If Apple were to release some of those "secret" features to developers now Microsoft would have it too and possibly add similar features at the last minute.
I also believe Apple and Microsoft are working together on some stuff.

    Vista Jan 30th
Leopard shown at MWSF and released in March.

Rosetta won't be visible on Intel machines in March.

So I am able to track any person, regardless of whether or not the nike + sensor is on them, if I am within 60 feet. I mean c'mon. If I had to stay within 60 of em the whole time, it would just be easier to drop the laptop and reciever I'm carrying around and just walkand use my eyes.

    What a load of FUD

All I know is that this one hopefully will not give me a major headache:p that is one thing I can't seem to get over when I watch 3D on tv after say 30 or so minutes I start to get headaches (or eye strain never can be sure) so no thanks I rather have higher resolution than 3D any day. Now when do we get of this 3D and go 4K:D

haha, i'm getting abit of a headache reading all these posts...

True, but Portal 2 is released for both MacOSX and Windows. :|

:) I bought it for Windows as such. No question, Window's allows the BEST gaming experience...both in hardware support, and W7:DX11 > OSX:OpenGL

My real beef is that Apple doesnt compliment its wonderfully built machines with capable GPU's. I mean, a 5750 as the best graphics option in the otherwise superb (might I add expensive) 27inch iMac? Total Fail. Im not looking for them to kick PWR consumption totally, but they could easily facilitate something as powerful as a 560ti or dare I say a 6850.

    oh man. that's not cool.

take a look here. (http://foldingforum.org/viewtopic.php?f=59&t=15196) there is a link to a driver sweeper. direct link (http://www.guru3d.com/category/driversweeper/) if the other doesn't work.

let us know if you are still having trouble and we'll try to help

Well I fixed the video problem... I have been using a KVM to route all video to one monitor that way I don't have to keep unplugging the monitor from each machine as I check it, so I decided to see what would happen if I hooked the monitor directly to the 980x and it works perfectly that way.

Then I tried to load the folding apps and that didn't go so well so I have some more work to do to figure that out.

The only problem with some switchers is that they're so used to doing things the complicated way. I've had most of my friends go out and buy iTunes, some to switch to the Mac, but it seems like they're not used to the fact that their OS works for them rather than the other way around.

For instance, one friend organized his entire iTunes library in playlist. For each artist, each album -- he wanted one click access to every album. I then told him about the "Browse" feature and he was pretty pissed. It also seems like people aren't used to the fact that iTunes organizes your music files for you -- they want to go into each folder and name things themselves. SO DIFFICULT.

-Get rid of Carbon API. Cocoa API exclusively. Maybe Carbon only for legacy process.
-Get rid of PowerPC legacy code. Intel only.
    -Reduce OS footprint by half.
    -Resolution independance. Vector based UI.
-Use Hardware accelerated Vector rendering (see Khronos' OpenVG)
    -Latest OpenGL
-New context based menu. Similar to iPad's Popover.
    -More OpenCL based system applications.
    -Mac Game Center

Upgrade to cost only $9 and downloadable over MacAppStore.

+1 I'm so sick of the 30% comments when that is not even close to the issue.

    And I do know publishing.

Yep, and the funny thing is, even if you want to pretend 30% is an issue, fine! Charge 100% more for the iPad subscription. That should make up for it, no? I'd gladly pay it.

The 500% increase they're asking now is outrageous. (Wired is $10 for 12 issues through Amazon.)

Depends on the clear coat really. Look at how "scratch" resistant a car is going 100 km/h on the highway, exposed to all sorts of elements and debris and then tell me the expose aluminum on a Macbook would fare as well.

    Clear coat is surprisingly resistant.

hmmm never thought of it that way...I still disagree because while my car doesn't get scratches that often from driving, driving and small impacts from stones is very different than getting rubbed on a desk in a bag with keys, etc etc. I would not put a small, painted car part in my bag or on my desk without some sort of protection. Would you? Do you know a lot about clear coats? I'd like to hear more (being serious)
